Killerton House, Devon

Killerton House was built in 1778-9 as a home for the Acland family, one of Devon’s oldest families. In 1944, Sir Richard Acland “gave away” Killerton to the National Trust and used the proceeds to further his political beliefs. Sir Richard Acland was a devoted socialist and one of the founders of the British Commonwealth Party.
