Snowshill Manor & Garden, Cotswolds, South West England
Snowshill is located in the northern Cotswolds and dates from the Tudor period.
It was once the property of the eccentric collector Charles Wade (1883-1956), and is now owned and operated by the National Trust. Wade was the son of wealthy parents who owned sugar plantations in the West Indies on St Kitts.
On the abolition of slavery, his grandparents received compensation through the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833.

Wade supposedly inherited his love of collecting from his grandmother in Great Yarmouth. After working as an architect, he served in the First World War after which he bought Snowshill.
Let Nothing Perish
Wade’s motto was, “Let nothing perish.” He did not live in the manor house himself but kept it as a location to display his collection of crafted “objects.”
These include many items from Japan and China, spinning wheels, model ships, beetles, and too many other things to mention.
