South West Park And Ride Schemes

The South West has a number of Park and Ride schemes to ease congestion during the busy summer holiday season and at all other times of the year in larger towns. The one pictured is in Lyme Regis.

Lyme Regis Park & Ride Bus

In Dorset, Dorchester had a Park And Ride facility from April 2007 until it closed in 2016.

There are summer visitor Park And Ride services in Bridport, Lyme Regis, and Weymouth.

In Cornwall, Truro’s Park And Ride is at Langarth Park on the A390 near Threemilestone, with new Mercedes buses running Monday-Saturday from 7 am-7 pm into Truro town centre. Buses leave Langarth Park every 10 minutes between 7 am to 10.30 am and then from 2.30 pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday and every 15 minutes at all other times.

Planning permission is still awaiting for an 823 vehicle Park And Ride scheme for Exeter at the Ide interchange off the A30 in the Alphin Brook Conservation Area. But at present nine years after the initial application it looks doubtful.

Exeter has 3 existing schemes from Honiton Road, Sowton and Matford all operated by Stagecoach running to Paris Street and South Street (from Matford). Both Paris Street and South Street are a short stroll from Exeter High Street.

The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital also run a Park & Ride service to Wonford Hospital from Digby (near Tesco, the railway station and junction 30 of the M5). This is the PR3.

Plymouth’s scheme utilizes high-tech buses with TV screens and leather seating.
