Gay Street Bath

Gay Street is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in Bath. The street and its townhouses were designed by John Wood the Elder (1704-54) and completed by his son John Wood, the Younger.

Gay Street links Queen’s Square to the Royal Circus and at number 40 is the interesting and informative Jane Austen Centre. The author was actually resident at number 25, however.

Many of the three storey houses are Grade I or II listed buildings. The dwellings are noted for their Mansard roofs and Ionic columns.
