Bramall Hall, Bramhall, Stockport

Bramall Hall is a black and white timber-framed Tudor period Manor House located a short distance from the centre of Stockport.

History

Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the manor of Bramhall passed to the Norman conquerors and the Massey (aka Masci) family from its original Saxon lords. Subsequent owners over the years were the Davenport, De Bromales and also Nevill families.

Parts of the house, which is open as a museum, date from the 14th, 16th and 19th centuries. Noteworthy features of Bramall Hall include the impressive Great Hall, the oak-paneled Lesser Hall, a ballroom and chapel, and a Banqueting Hall.

Grounds

The house and the 70 acres of grounds, which include formal gardens and a lake are now owned by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. The main hall can be leased for weddings, banquets as well as conferences.

The property had a £2 million pound makeover (thanks largely to a Lottery fund grant) with work done on the property between 2014-2016. The stained glass windows and ceilings were completely restored and new rooms opened to the public for the first time.
