Life
Ripon was born at 10 Downing Street, London, the second son of Prime Minister F. J. Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich.
He served under various Prime Ministers including Lord Russell, Palmerston and Gladstone.
Viceroy of India from 1880 to 1884, Robinson is considered liberal and tried to pass reforms in aid of native Indians.
Flats in Turner’s Reach House are now worth over 4 million pounds, which gives some idea of the wealth of the occupiers in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
