St James’ Park Station on Well Street is close to Exeter City football ground and a short walk from the Exeter University campus. Great Western Railway (GWR) manage the station and operate rail services.

Rail Connections

There are two platforms at the station. Platform 1 has trains to Exeter St. David’s Station. The preceding station is Exeter Central which has trains to London Waterloo via Axminster and Salisbury.

Platform 2 has trains to the sedate, resort town of Exmouth on the coast on the Avocet Line via Topsham along the Exe Estuary.

The London-Exeter train to London Paddington, as well as services to Birmingham and Bristol, stop only at Exeter St. David’s Station.

History

The station dates from the early 20th century when it opened in 1906 as Lion’s Holt Station.

Facilities

There are few facilities at the station just bicycle parking and a pay phone.

The Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is a recommended hotel in Exeter. The Victorian-era, 4-star Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is opposite Exeter Central Rail Station.
