Attractions

The fishing harbour still operates and Pittenweem Harbour is a pleasant place to watch boats come and go, spot seabirds, and soak in the salty breeze. Nearby St Fillan’s Cave is thought to have been used by the 7th-century Irish missionary St Fillan (check locally to see if it is open). The Pittenweem Arts Festival takes place in August and is a major draw. Every summer, homes, studios, sheds, and halls turn into pop-up galleries. Over 100 artists and makers exhibit, and the whole village comes alive with creativity. Book accommodation early if you’re visiting during festival week. The Fife Coastal Path also runs through Pittenweem. Head west to St Monans or east to Anstruther, both are scenic and manageable walks. Enjoy the dramatic sea views, wildflowers, and plenty of seabirds.

Eat & Drink

The Larachmhor Tavern (The Larachs) is a combined pub, restaurant and fish and chip shop. The Dory Bistro and Gallery at 15 East Shore offers the freshest seafood landed in the harbour including lobsters, langoustines, and crabs. It has a Michelin star and there is also a small gallery and shop (paintings, prints, ceramics and jewellery) on the premises. Also near the harbour, Nicholson’s Ice Cream Shop has yummy locally made ice cream – perfect on a sunny day. Unfortunately the Clock Tower Cafe on the High Street will no longer be serving delicious sandwiches, salads, homemade soups and cakes as it closes on April 26th, 2025.
