London-born singer Jessie J flicked the switch with the help of other celebrities including teen sensation Conor Maynard, 2012 X-Factor winner James Arthur as well as Capital FM DJs Lisa Snowdon and Dave Berry in a booth outside Selfridges to light up London’s premier shopping street.

Crowds flock to see the lights
The 750,000 LED lights on Oxford Street will remain illuminated until January 6, 2014.

In 2021 nearby Regent Street and Bond Street as well as streets in Mayfair and Piccadilly joined in the fun and lit up with Oxford Street in what was billed as the largest light up in the world with over a million LEDs.
