Emirates Greenwich Peninsula Station

A close walk from the O2 and North Greenwich Station is Emirates Greenwich Peninsula terminal in east London.

The station

The Emirates Air Line between Emirates Greenwich Peninsula and Emirates Royal Docks (with connections on the Docklands Light Railway or DLR at Royal Victoria Station) is London’s only cable car and the first public transport station in London to be sponsored by a private company.

The journey on the cable car’s gondolas, 90 metres high over the River Thames, takes about 10 minutes and has fantastic views of the O2, ExCel Centre and the river below. The capacity is 10 people per gondola.

The service opened in June 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics at a cost of a reported £60 million. London’s mayor Boris Johnson has revealed plans for the private sponsorship for existing stations in London which could see such stations as Tottenham Court Road renamed “Samsung.”

Emirates Greenwich Peninsula Station gondola

Each gondola has a capacity of 10 people

Fares are £3.20 for adults and £1.20 for children with Oyster cards. If you don’t have an Oyster card you will have to queue especially on weekends or UK public holidays and the single adult fare is then £4.30.

North Greenwich Station is the nearest tube station to Emirates Greenwich Peninsula on the Jubilee Line of the London Underground network.
