The Sportsman Inn is a pleasant country pub in the village of Hayfield at the foot of Kinder Scout in the Peak District. The village has a population of less than 3,000 people but has several pubs to serve them.
Facilities
If the weather is fine there are seats in the garden at the rear and even the odd grave for company. The pub is known as dog-friendly and has an open fire in the bar in cold weather.
There’s a range of cask ales, whiskies, and wines in the bar. The Sportsman Inn offers good food including steak, beer-battered fresh haddock and chips, sandwiches, and a Sunday roast.

The village of Hayfield is in the pretty Sett Valley between the towns of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and New Mills.
It is just 18 miles southeast of Manchester, 11 miles from Stockport and about 10 miles north of Buxton and within easy reach of all three places by car.
By train, the nearest railway stations are at New Mills (New Mills Newtown & New Mills Central) and Glossop. In addition, there are bus connections to Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop, New Mills, and Stockport Station in Stockport.
Castleton and Mam Tor are both a short drive to the southeast. From Derby, Hayfield is an hour and 15 minutes on the A515.
Take the 358 bus from Stockport Mersey Square bus station to Hayfield via Wellington Road, Offerton, Marple and also New Mills.
If you wish to stay in Hayfield then try the George Hotel on Church Street, The Lantern Pike Inn or The Royal, a historic Grade II listed inn, dating back to 1755. The village is also a base for a pleasant hike around Kinder Reservoir.
