Guido (Guy) Fawkes was born at this location in 1570. The Guy Fawkes Inn lies in the shadow of York Minster and Fawkes himself was baptised in St. Michael le Belfrey, just across the street.

Despite the passing of centuries, this historic building is extremely well preserved.
