Haggis – A Wee Taste of Scotland

Scottish cuisine may not have the best reputation but it does have some delicious favourites such as haggis, whole hog roast and Arbroath Smokies (Smoked Haddock).

Haggis, Scotland

Scotland’s signature dish

The national dish of Scotland as much as roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding or fish and chips or Full English Breakfast could be thought of as quintessential English fare, haggis is a savoury mix of minced sheep’s innards mixed with oatmeal, onion, suet and salt.

Traditionally this would be simmered in boiling water wrapped in the animal’s stomach.

Haggis is often served with mashed potato and turnips and traditionally eaten on Burns Night on January 25.

A good place to sample fresh Scottish produce is at the Edinburgh Farmer’s Market in Edinburgh, which takes place on Saturday’s below Edinburgh Castle.
