Berwick Street is located in the vibrant and diverse neighbourhood of London’s Soho. It is the home of the iconic Berwick Street Market, supplying Soho’s residents and anyone else who wishes to pass though with fresh food and drink, as well as vinyl, textiles, flowers, vintage clothing and other goods.

History

In the 1980’s, Berwick Street became known as ‘The Golden Mile of Vinyl’. It has been an incredibly popular destination for vinyl collectors for more than 30 years.

It is home to several of the few independent record stores that still exist, including Sister Ray, Reckless Records and Soho’s Music and Video Exchange (sadly now closed – there are still MGE stores in Notting Hill and Greenwich. Because of this, Berwick Street always tends to play a big part in the annual Record Store Day celebrations.

In 2012, Billy Bragg made an appearance in Sister Ray to do a free show and in 2013, a temporary stage was erected in the centre of Berwick Street to support performances from Wire, Steve Mason and Frank Turner.

Adding to Berwick Street’s rich record-related history, it was the location for the cover photograph of the Oasis album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’.

Berwick Street in London is often host to an array of pop-up shops and exhibitions and is currently the home of a pop-up store dedicated to The Clash, to celebrate the release of two remastered tracks, ‘Hits Back’ and ‘Sound System’.
