Durham Christmas Market 2014
Durham is a small city in the North-East of England, not far from Newcastle. It is home to Durham Cathedral, the University of Durham and also the annual Durham Christmas Festival and Market.
In December 2014 the Durham Christmas Festival celebrated it’s 21st year and ran from the 5th-7th of the month and had over 300 small business taking part.
Most of the stalls were hosted in the Craft and Gift Marquee outside the Cathedral, and the remainder in the Cathedral Cloisters and Durham Market Place. The permanent stalls in Durham Market Hall were also open for the duration of the weekend.

Carol singers, brass bands and Children’s rides were also part of the festival, as well as the annual Children’s Lantern Procession. This is led from Durham Market Place to the Cathedral ready for the St Nicholas Service.

A spectacular Christmas tree and set of lights also decorate the Market Place which attract everyone in the evenings.

The Durham Christmas Festival is a very typical English tradition and a definite must for anyone who finds themselves in the North of England during the festive period.
