History

The gardens were originally known as St James’s Park and were laid out in 1709. Before that the land was owned by Bath Abbey. Indeed, stone remains of the so-called ‘Monks Mill’ still exist in the gardens.

There are some lovely lawns to enjoy along with several exceptional bedding displays of flowers and plants. In addition, visitors can enjoy fine views of Pulteney Bridge and Pulteney Weir.

There are statues of a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Maria Anna Mozart, his beloved older sister at the northern end.
