History

Eastgate Clock is located on the ancient Roman entrance to the city of Deva (Dewa). The present walkway is built in red sandstone and dates from 1768. It forms part of the historic walls of Chester.

The four-faced clock was added in 1899 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1879.
