Chester Station

Chester Station is the main railway station in Chester in the north west of England.

The station first opened in 1848 and was designed by architect Francis Thompson (1808–1895), known for his work on the railways in Britain and Canada.

The station was renovated and modernized in 2007.

Trains

Trains run by a variety of operators (Arriva, Virgin, Merseyrail, Northern) from Chester run to Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool and Holyhead (for ferries to Dublin in Ireland)

There are also services to Stockport Station, Crewe (for trains to London Euston), Manchester Airport, Cardiff Central, and Birmingham New Street via Wrexham General and Llandudno.

Buses

Various local bus services fan out from the station including the X8 bus to Chester Zoo. There is also a regular shuttle to Frodsham Street in Chester city centre every 6 minutes, from Monday to Saturday.

Across the road from Chester Station is the Hallmark Hotel The Queen with a bar and cafe open to non-residents.

Other nearby places to stay are the popular Belgrave Hotel and the Ormonde Guesthouse.

Attractions

Chester has much to see and do and makes for an easy day trip from Liverpool or Manchester.

The city’s sights include Eastgate Clock, the historic Roman Amphitheater and the Cross.

Also on the tourist trail are Grosvenor Park, St John’s Churchthe Meadows, near the River Dee, the impressive Chester Cathedral and the Rows – terraces of medieval shops.

The riverside Boathouse pub is also a short walk from the station through the Roman Gardens.
